Girls Dormitory
TDS' first project was a dormitory for girls at Nyegina Secondary School. The facility was the spark that launched TDS after Founders, Kurt and Jeanine Thurmaier visited the school. Started in 2008 and completed in 2012, it was the first modern dormitory in Nyegina. Housing up to 160 girls and providing a safe and clean environment with flush toilets and private showers.
Safe Water Mugango
Between 2015 and 2019, TDS helped launch and support a women-owned social enterprise that made ceramic water filters. TDS provided the funding to construct a small manufacturing operation that included machinery and a kiln to produce water filters and high-efficiency charcoal stoves. Once production started, the women were able to produce and sell their products to families and schools in the area. The women were even invited to attend and display their items during the running of the Uhuru Torch in 2019 as it passed through the Mara region.
