For girls and boys in the Mara region, education can be life-changing. It’s a pathway to independence, a brighter future, and has the power to lift entire communities out of poverty. But too often, challenges can get in the way, cutting short opportunities for young people to complete their education or making it harder to succeed. A late start learning the basics. A lack of books or school supplies. Little food and water to feed growing minds during the school day.
As we reflect on the past year, there are moments that remind us that supporting students, teachers, and schools in the Mara region can make a big difference. Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, we’ve accomplished so much working with our partners in the Mara region.
Installation of a new computer lab at Etaro Secondary School, allowing the students to pass the computer science sections of the national exams
Hundreds of pounds of fresh food grown at eight primary and secondary schools while students learned about best practices in agriculture and entrepreneurship
Delivery of 200 durable microscopes to four secondary schools
Dozens of career exploration days where students have learned about engineering, agroforestry, health services, and other high-demand careers in Tanzania
Another ten girls graduated from secondary school with exceptional grades and exam scores
More than 100 pre-k children participating in the Library and Community Resource Center’s (LCRC) early childhood programs
Construction of water tanks to harvest rainwater for drinking, girl’s hygiene, and irrigation at Etaro Secondary School
Thousands of new books for the LCRC’s growing student and parent membership
